The BSA Numbers Game -Hoosier Trail Signs
Do we play a numbers game? WE have:
Too many kids with few positive alternatives in their lives. Too many kids who are bored. Too many kids with time on their hands. Too many kids who have no moral footings. Too many kids with little or no supervision after school. Too many kids who are exposed to violence every day. Too many kids with low self-esteem. Too many kids who are abused physically, mentally, and sexually. Too many kids with little respect for authority. Too many kids who don't value principles such as honesty, self-discipline, honor, courtesy, initiative, charity, and service to others. Too many kids who haven't been given a Scouting chance! You bet we are playing a numbers game. Every day we read in the papers and hear on the news about gang violence, children bringing guns to school, assaults, carjackings, and so on. We have a challenge and we have a program which meets the needs of a lot of these kids. More than 1,200,000 caring adult volunteers make sure that Scouting reaches kids from all neighborhoods and communities, racial and ethnic groups, economic circumstances, and beliefs. It's a numbers game and we are in it for the long haul. Scouting instills values in young people and, through the Scouting methods, we develop citizens of character who will be prepared to make ethical choices throughout their full potential. Will Rogers knew it was a numbers game too, when he said, "You know the problem with the Boy Scouts is there ain't enough of them!" Every youth deserves a Scouting chance!
