Example Tiger Cub Program Ideas
Your program will probably start after the first Pack meeting of the year so there
won't be much time in September for den activities.
Be sure to tell your advancement chairperson how many Tiger Totems and/or
Bobcat ranks are needed well before the next pack meeting by using your Tiger
Advancement Report.

Tiger Cubs have "2" one hour den meetings, "1" Go See It, "1" Pack Meeting
and "1" Family Activity each month.
Den Meeting 1:  Explain the Tiger program and that the Tiger Cubs will first
earn a Tiger Totem, then the Bobcat badge, and then start on the Tiger
achievements.  The Tiger Totem is used to track advancement and is
recognition for the activities that Tiger Cubs either perform or participate in.  In
order to get the Tiger Totem the Tiger must learn the Cub Scout Motto, Cub
Scout Sign, and Cub Scout Salute.  They can learn this at one meeting.  Start
teaching the Bobcat requirements (Cub Scout Promise, motto, sign,
handshake, salute, Law of the Pack, and what Webelos means) so the Tigers
are ready to receive their Bobcat rank in about a month.

You can make a game out of the Cub Scout Promise by breaking the
promise down on index cards and mixing them up and having the Tiger Cubs
put them in the proper order of the Cub Scout Promise
.  This makes learning
the promise more fun than just memorizing from a book.  Always having them
say the Promise at the opening of each meeting helps with the memorization
as well.

Do
#1D (Make a Family Scrapbook)  Each team should get folder with copy
paper or construction paper.  Decorate the folder.  Do this now so the Tiger
Cubs can keep all of their memories for the year in their scrapbook.

Plan
#1F Chores at Home.  Give each team paper or a small poster so they
can make a chart and listing the chosen chore and dates it will be done.  The
Tiger Cub and Adult partner should work on this together and decide how they
will do the chore together.

Plan a "Go See It" outing for the next month

Go See It:  Jersey Shore Council's Scouting Celebration at Tuckerton Seaport
   October 28th, 2006

Family:  Do #1F Chores at Home
Den Meeting 2:  Do #2D  (Pledge of Allegiance)  at the den meeting.  Practice
the Bobcat requirements.  Now, at every meeting you can have a flag ceremony
and repeat the pledge and motto using the salute and sign.
Do
Elective #35 by playing a couple of fun outdoor games.

Go See It:  #5G  Take a hike at the end of the month.  You may not get nice
weather for much longer.  Bring along healthy snacks and each scout should
have a water bottle.  Include a picnic lunch to fulfill
Elective #22.

Family:
Do #3Fa  (fire drill)

Pack Meeting:  Receive Bobcat badge and Tiger Totem
Den Meeting 3:  Do #5D (leaf rubbing) - while on a short hike, collect leaves
and then bring them back to make rubbings in your den meeting.
Elective #15
can be done while discussing the colors of the leaves.
Introduce
#5F (watch the weather) so the scouts and adults can do it on their
own this month.  They can make a chart to track how many days were sunny,
cloudy, rainy, or snowy this month.

Go See It:  Watch a local High School Sporting Event

Family Activity:  #5F Watch the weather
Den Meeting 4:  Do Elective #27 Make a frame to hold emergency numbers.
Play make believe phone calls to 911 and have the adult partner play the part of
the dispatcher while the Tiger Cub provides the information.  Stress the
importance that 911 is only to be used in emergencies.

Do
#3D Make this a group game.  You can have an empty food pyramid on a
poster board on the wall.  The Tiger Cubs and the Adult Partners can identify
what foods go where on the food pyramid with cut outs of foods from pictures in
magazines.  Eating healthy is important in.  Use www.mypyramid.gov for help
to make a food chart.
Display this food pyramid at the next pack meeting.

Family Activity:  Talk about stranger danger or 3Fb what to do when getting lost.
Den Meeting 5:  Do Achievement #3D (food pyramid).  Practice Achievement
#4F (family discussion) by having each scout tell about something de did or
received for the holidays.

Go See It:  Elective #36  Go see a holiday play or movie

Family: #4F When you go shopping, you could talk about family traditions such
as having meals together or seeing other members of the family and why that
is special.
Den Meeting 6:  Achievement #2F Get a local map of the township from town
hall and discuss local points of interest with all team members.  Where are
they on the map?
Where is the library, the planetarium at OCC, etc?  If possible, have each team
get a copy of the map or make copies for each team.
Decide where you want to go for a
Go See It outing and locate it on the map.

Go See It:  Achievement  #1G  Visit a library or historic site-talk about what the
place was like 50 to 100 years ago or even more.

Family Activity:  Achievement #2F:  Read the map together with your family and
point out the places you located at the den meeting.
